Enjoy the atmosphere of a small friendly town. Take a stroll around downtown.
On Main Street, we suggest a visit to the old Clampitt Hardware Store, Elizabeth Ellison's Watercolor Studio, and Charleston Station Antiques.
On Everett Street, turn right at the first traffic light as you go into town, in the first block visit the Chamber of Commerce and Calby's Antiques, Flowers & Gifts. In the second block, visit the Nantahala Outfitters Store and Local Folk’s craft shop Across the street, be sure to visit Soda Pops, and Rita’s Hallmark Shop. In the third block, visit Barclay Home Products and Gil’s Bookstore. There are also several shops just around the train depot.
For a light lunch or Sunday Supper
On the way into Bryson City on Hwy. 19 is Na-Bers Drive-In), and The Barbecue Wagon (not open on Sundays). In town, a local favorite is the Everette Street Diner which is open Monday-Friday. The Fryemont Inn offers Sunday supper by reservation. Also in town, you will find Guayabitos Mexican Restaurant, Yummi Buffet Chinese Restaurant, Anthony’s Pizza, The Boxcar and Pasqualino’s Italian Restaurant. Several fast-food restaurants can be found in town on Veterans Blvd.
Picnicking
At Island Park in the middle of the Tuckaseigee River. Turn right at the first traffic light in town and right at the next light onto Bryson Street, and follow the signs. Or, picnic at Deep Creek. Another nice place is Collins Creek via Hwys. 19 and 441 North, 5 miles beyond the Visitor's Center in the National Park.
Swimming & Tennis
At the Swain County Recreation Park on Deep Creek Road. Follow signs from the Train Depot in downtown Bryson City.
