Oconaluftee to the Smokies
The Blue Ridge Parkway ends at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near the Oconaluftee Visitor Center with plenty of maps, guides, and helpful park rangers. At the center, you find the Mountain Farm Museum. The farm buildings, most dating around 1900, were moved from their original locations throughout the Great Smoky Mountain National Park to create an open-air museum. These structures, including a log house, woodshed, corn crib, barn, and blacksmith shop, offer a glimpse into the past and a greater appreciation of the rural heritage of this area. A short distance past the Visitor Center on Highway 441 is Mingus Mill, a working grist mill built in 1886.
