All aboard The Polar Express™ when it comes to life on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Read along with the story as the train makes its magical round trip journey to the North Pole. Meet Santa and enjoy caroling, hot chocolate and a treat. And, for those who believe, a special gift for each child.Watch your childrens’ faces light up with wonder when the train arrives at the North Pole, which is lit up with thousands of dazzling, colorful, lights to find Santa Claus waiting! Santa will board The Polar Express, greeting each child and presenting them with a special gift, their own silver sleigh bell. On the way home, Christmas carols will fill the air, and everyone is invited to sing along. Kids are encouraged to wear their pajamas. The 1¼ hour round-trip excursion Bryson City, just a few miles from the Hemlock Inn.

Our Polar Express Package includes many options! Please call us (828-488-2885) so we can create a package just for you. Our standard package includes room, breakfast, and tickets. Large, home-cooked breakfasts and dinners at Hemlock Inn are served family style at large, round bountifully laden tables with lazy Susans. Upgrades to suites, cottages and for First Class train car and Premium rides (Saturdays) available. Premium rates apply for every Saturday, Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas week.

The Polar Express tells the story of a young boy on Christmas Eve who is hoping for belief in the true spirit of Christmas. After falling asleep, a magical train called the Polar Express train pulls up in front of his house and he is invited to journey to the North Pole. After reaching the North Pole, the boy is handpicked by Santa Claus to receive the first present of Christmas. He chooses a bright silver bell from Santa's sleigh which makes a beautiful sound. As the years go by, people around him notice that they can no longer hear the beautiful sound, even his parents and sister. But there are those who still can, those who still truly believe.
