One of the more popular and longstanding Bryson City attractions is the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, a tourist train that meanders throughout the Great Smoky Mountains and Nantahala Forest region.
Trips leave daily from the depot in Bryson City, just a few miles from Hemlock Inn. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is truly spectacular, with 53 miles of track, two tunnels and 25 bridges. The most popular excursion is the Nantahala Gorge trip that crosses Lake Fontana and enters the wonderful Nantahala Gorge, home of great whitewater rafting. The Tuckasegee River excursion takes you to Dillsboro.
